Germany in 5 minutes

As a tourist destination, Germany has a fine heritage, fairy tale castles in Bavaria, quaint towns along the great Rhine river, beerfests in Munich and modern attractions in Berlin.

Berlin is Germany’s most exciting city, having been re-united and completely rebuilt. It is cosmopolitan, lively and has some execellent galleries and museums. Highlights include the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie museum (none of the wall remains) St Matthäikirche, Kulturforum and Berliner Philharmonie.

Frankfurt is very much a working city, and also a transport hub for Europe.
Munich is lovely, situated in the hilly south. The atmosphere is best at Marienplatz and it s gothic architecture. The palatial Residenz looms over the northern aspect of Max-Joseph-Platz. The Deutsches Museum is cutting edge in some sections, alternatively the English garden is famous for its public nude sunbathing.

Weimar is the epicentre of the country's ‘Age of Enlightenment’ , attracting scholars of the Bauhaus movement.

One of the prettiest and more undulating areas of German is Bavaria, at the foot of the Alps, with its fairy-tale castles everywhere, and scenic Lake Constance and the Black Forest.

Lübeck is a glorious medieval town that's earned its place on UNESCO's World Heritage list, while Potsdam, Schloss Sanssouci castle, has some impressive former royal residences.

Tübingen is a pretty university town, and Mainz and Koblenz are two delightful highlights along the Rhine valley.

The North Frisian Islands off the north-western coast of Germany, are well-known for occasional sunshine, sand dunes, sea and pure air.

Everything runs like clockwork in Germany, and the apparently humourless locals redeem themselves with first class organization and a proud nation that has emerged from its disgraced and divided past to become one of the power houses of Europe. Culture, nature, entertainment and tourism facilities are all extremely rewarding to visitors.

Most long-haul flights arrive in Frankfurt, but Munich and Berlin are also an option, numerous trains and buses arrive from throughout Europe and the auto bahn network is among the world’s best, making driving a pleasure.
